MARIA BATTAGLIA STORY
When Maria Battaglia talks about Corsica, she has these few words:
«It is by moving away from it that its memory, its brilliance, the emotions it conveys, the source of inspiration it represents, the joy in the heart it provokes are omnipresent...»
Halfway between the mountain massifs anchored in the sea, the wild scrubland and the pine and olive forests that stretch as far as the eye can see, his childhood was marked by
the rich flora of a Balagne where nature is omnipresent.

In this treasure trove of biodiversity, Maria discovered an innumerable variety of wild plants, minerals, trees, landscapes and animals, and developed an infinite love for her native land.

Napoleon said that every territory has the history of its geography.
Its borders are made of water, The water of the Mediterranean, cradle of so many different peoples, of an immense sociological and cultural mix, of influences shared over the centuries from which it has benefited with varying degrees of constraint.
Corsica is a mosaic that is unique in the world,
endowed with a rare beauty that prompted the ancient Greeks to name it Kallisté (the most beautiful), made up of landscapes as varied as they are breathtaking, bringing together all the colours that the imagination can produce.
Today, it is one of the last islands to have preserved its biotope from the ravages of concrete. All those who have seen, touched, felt and contemplated this land with all their senses will treasure it for eternity.

Maria Battaglia was born on this island, in Balagne, north of Calvi, one fine day in October 1989. Like her, her five brothers and sisters carry the ninth generation of their family into the future.
Maria's DNA is forged in this granite, this nature, this Mediterranean, this rich culture. She studied here, met the man of her life, and Ange-Marie and Paolina, her children, were born here.

CORSICA
The Maria Battaglia brand draws its inspiration from its Corsican origins. Her creations are an ode to the Mediterranean island, its flourishing nature and its mystique.
In the Maria Battaglia collection, elements borrowed from the natural Corsican landscape are recurring motifs. These include the chestnut leaf, a tree from the Castagniccia region, the Immortelle flower, an endemic Corsican flower, the Bonifacio coral, and the Altore, an eagle that has made the island its sanctuary.

Omnipresent in the Corsican landscape,
These flowers, trees and animals are an essential part of life on the island. They give it all its richness and are essential to maintaining its balance. Emblematic figures of wild flora and fauna, they are also seen as protectors.
Like guardians of nature, they watch over their island and protect its inhabitants. High in the sky, the eagles reign supreme. Like watchmen scanning the horizon, they keep a watchful eye on life on the island. Underwater, other creatures stand guard: sea urchins and red coral, which have the power to regulate and protect the marine environment. Finally, there's the ‘Eye of Saint Lucia’, a small shell with magical powers that the island's children collect as good luck charms.

Worn as jewellery, these elements of nature take on all their symbolic power, bringing luck, love and health to the wearer. Conceived as precious talismans, Maria Battaglia creations are a promise of protection. They can be worn discreetly and elegantly on the wrist or finger, or close to the heart like a secret jewel you'd like to keep.
A place of myths and legends,
Corsica has many stories. Although religion has faded with time, the imagination and folklore still harbour a wealth of stories and beliefs. The symbolic representation of nature is still at the heart of the culture. Maintained by the fibre of the island, which finds expression in stories, songs and traditions, it has been perpetuated over the centuries and is still very much present today. Maria Battaglia jewellery benefits from these stories, these foundations built over time and these authentic roots.
THE
SYmBOLISM
of
JEWELLERY
From coral branches to diamond crosses, the Maria Battaglia collection is bursting with solar jewellery with great symbolic power.
Like a link or gateway between the physical and mystical worlds, they attract the most beneficial influences.
In Corsica, nature is symbolically represented by 5 elements:
water, earth, air and fire, the universe.
Carried by the doxa, and passed down from generation to generation, this belief is the source of many legends and myths. Nature is made up of symbols which, like sacred forces, orchestrate our world and provide the conditions necessary for life on earth: earth nourishes, water quenches, air allows us to breathe, fire warms and the universe illuminates.
Each Maria Battaglia jewel bears a symbol belonging to one of these elements.
Terra is represented by the chestnut tree, the Immortelle flower and the Rosula.
Acqua is embodied by the coral, the sea urchin and the Eye of Saint Lucia.
Fiama with the ring of love and passion. Aria is represented by the Altore eagle.
The Universu with the star Diana and the cross.
Like consecrated symbols, these representations of nature, religion and the cosmos carry the imagination. Those who wear them also agree to believe in their history and symbolism, and in turn pass on the myth.
