GOLD IN YOUR HANDS

The Maria Battaglia Collection

It is in Corsica that Maria Battaglia drew her inspiration for his eponymous jewelry brand. Driven by the desire to Celebrating your homeland at her most beautiful, Maria imagines a collection of gold bracelets, pendants and rings inspired by the island's culture. She takes the time to recall her memories, so that the creative impulse is pure, brilliant, in tune with the emotion experienced.

The Maria Battaglia collection is inspired by elements borrowed from the Corsican natural landscape which come back as reassuring symbols. Among them, the chestnut leaf, a tree from the Castaniccia region, the immortelle flower, a Corsican endemic flower, the coral of Bonifacio, or the Altore, an eagle that has made this island its sanctuary.

Omnipresent in the Corsican landscape, these flowers, trees, and animals constitute the very essence of life on the island. They give it all its richness and are essential in maintaining its balance. Emblematic figures of the fauna and Wild flora, they are also perceived as protective figures.

In the air, the Altore eagles, true attentive and protective lookouts, scan the horizon. Like guardians of the heavens, they watch over the island over which they reign supreme.

Underwater, sea urchins and red coral have the power to regulate and protect the aquatic environment. The small shell "The Eye of Saint Lucia", on the other hand, is attributed magical powers that make it the lucky charm of the island's children who collect it.

Worn as jewelry, these elements of nature take on all their symbolic force; They confer luck, love or health to those who wear them. Imagined as Precious talismans, Maria Battaglia's creations are a promise of protection. They can be worn on the small of the wrist, on the finger with discretion and elegance, or close to the heart like a secret jewel that you would like to keep as close as possible to you.

Corsica has many fables.

Although religion has faded over time, there are still many stories and beliefs in the imagination and folklore. The symbolic representation of nature is always at the heart of culture. Maintained by the island fibre which finds its expression in tales, songs and traditions, it has been perpetuated over the centuries and is still very present today. Maria Battaglia jewelry benefits from these stories passed down over time and this authentic rootedness.

THE SYMBOLISM OF JEWELRY

Between coral branches and diamond crosses, the Maria Battaglia collection is full of jewels with symbolic powers. Like a link or a Gateway between the physical and mystical worlds, they attract the best omens on their lucky holders.

In Corsica, nature is symbolically represented by 5 elements: the universe, air, fire, water and earth. Carried by the doxa, and passed down from generation to generation, this belief is at the origin of many legends and myths. Nature is made up of symbols that, like sacred forces, orchestrate our world and provide the necessary conditions for life on earth; The universe illuminates, the air allows us to breathe, the fire warms, the water quenches thirst, the earth nourishes.

MARIA BATTAGLIA JEWELRY EACH HAS A SYMBOL BELONGING TO ONE OF THESE ELEMENTS:

The Universu by the star Diana and the cross.

The Aria by the eagle Altore.

The Fiama with the ring of love and passion.

The Acqua as for it, it is embodied by the coral, the sea urchin and the Eye of Saint Lucia.

The Terra is represented by the chestnut tree, the Immortelle flower and the Rosula.

These sacred representations of nature, religion and the cosmos are the bearers of the imagination. The person who wears them also agrees to believe in their history and symbolism, and in turn transmits the myth.

Universu

THE STAR DIANA

Designed by Maria Battaglia, Diana is the name given to Venus in the island sky, it is materialized by a thin and delicate star, worn on an 18-carat gold polished ring and declined as a necklace, bracelet and earrings. It takes the shape of a seven-pointed star, a lucky number for the designer. In Corsica, the night is so clear that it is easy to admire the starry sky. As the sun sets, the celestial vault reveals itself and a myriad of stars appear. The one who shines more than all is called Diana Di l'Alba. The Gate of Dawn that opens and closes the confines of the night, the Diana Di Alba is the Morning Star that guides the shepherd's steps. Like a protective deity, a symbol of femininity, she watches over the island.

THE CROSS

In Corsica, all along the paths, crosses are signs for the inhabitants and guides for pilgrims. More than a religious motif, they symbolize the land of welcome and protection. They are located at the entrance to the villages, they adorn the houses as a sign of welcome. Planted on the highest point of the mountains, they dominate the valley and serve as a landmark for travellers. Maria Battaglia was inspired by this motif to create several of her creations: a bracelet, a necklace and a pair of earrings. Worn around the neck or wrist, the cross then becomes a lucky charm for those who possess it.

Aria

THE ALTORE EAGLE

The Altore is a fascinating bird, considered to be the largest eagle in Corsica. Its size and majestic plumage make it easily recognizable and have made it a true emblem of the island. A treasure trove of biodiversity, Corsica has an incredible variety of landscapes and animal species. It has been a land of refuge for many endangered birds, such as the Altore. To pay tribute to this sublime animal, Maria has designed a unique and spectacular 18-carat gold earring with its effigy. The eagle's articulated wings are paved with a long cascade of diamonds and its eye is topped by a ruby.

Fiama

The heart has its reasons that reason ignores.

 Pascal (1640)

The Maria Battaglia collections are animated by the sacred fire of passion, of love, love, the cardinal universal belief that has ruled the world since the dawn of time... Maria, in her work as a creator, is carried by this spark that in a fraction of a second makes an inanimate stone, a lifeless metal; A jewel that appropriates and fixes the moment when 2 beings promise each other for the rest of their existence. Fiama is part of the Maria Battaglia universe, as a marker of those moments when love is coiled deep in the souls of those who declare their love.

To materialize this collection, Maria offers wedding rings designed with love and passion and made of 18-carat gold and diamonds.

CORAL

The red coral "Corallium rubrum" is a strong symbol of Corsican culture. In mythology, it is considered to represent the blood of the Medusa beheaded by Perseus. To protect themselves from Perseus' bad fate, Corsican families have the custom of offering a branch of coral to the newborn at each birth. Used for millennia as an amulet to protect against bad luck, it has become an emblem of protection for all the inhabitants of the island. In the continuity of this tradition, Maria creates pendants and rings from Bonifacio coral, the red gold of the Mediterranean. The branch is made in Torre del Greco, the world capital of coral cutting, and the jewel adorned with diamonds that illuminate the pendant is mounted in the brand's partner workshops. Our coral comes from an extremely regulated fishery that respects very limited quotas, thus preserving coral colonies. The few island coralers still active are the guardians of this very demanding regulation. It is in this context that we buy some samples in order to be able to meet our production needs.

THE SEA URCHIN

The sea urchin is a very common species in the Mediterranean. It inhabits the outskirts of the Isle of Beauty and is considered by its inhabitants to be a true treasure of the seabed. The sea urchin is well known to fishermen, but it also plays an important ecological role. Its presence is an indicator of the good health of marine waters and its role in the balance of ecosystems is essential. For Maria, the sea urchin evokes many childhood memories. She is inspired by it to create a collection of rings that can be worn in accumulation, creating a very strong visual signature.

THE EYE OF SAINT LUCIA

The eye of Saint Lucia looks like a flat shell, it populates the periphery of Corsica. Just like coral, it carries many ancestral legends. According to legend, Saint Lucy obtained the healing of her mother through her prayers to the Virgin Mary. In gratitude, Saint Lucia is said to have gouged out her eyes and thrown them into the sea so that nothing could distract her from her devotion to the Virgin Mary. In response to this devotion, the Blessed Virgin picked up two lids from the Turbo Rugosa, restored her sight and made her the most beautiful woman on the island. In the Maria Battaglia collection, the eye of Saint Lucia is worn around the neck to undoubtedly attract the sweetest omens.

THE FLOWER OF IMMORTELLE

Very present in Corsica, the immortelle flower has become a symbol of the island's flora but also of the Casanera brand. Strong and resistant, it flourishes along the Corsican coast, in the sea spray. Corsicans have been using it for thousands of years for its therapeutic virtues and its bewitching fragrance. The designer Maria Battaglia dedicates an entire collection to this flower native to Corsica. She offers it as a ring, bracelet, necklace and a pair of 18-carat yellow gold sleepers adorned with diamonds.

THE ROSULA

The Rosula collection celebrates the Rosa Canina. Ring, bracelet, necklace and earrings are adorned with a delicate gold rose paved with diamonds. This pattern was inspired by the wild rose that populates the Corsican landscapes and the compass rose that guides travelers. At the crossroads of the major maritime routes, Corsica has always been a central stopover point for sailors and merchants. It is a land of encounters but also of departures and sometimes of non-return. The Rosula embodies a symbol of hope. It accompanies and shows the way to those who have lost their way.

THE CHESTNUT LEAF

In Corsica, the chestnut tree is considered a tree of providence. Abundant and easy to grow, it has made it possible to feed many families in times of famine. Its rich and tasty flour is used in many dishes of the local cuisine and its wood is used to create furniture and church doors. Its majestic and robust silhouette can be seen in the four corners of the island, making the tree an emblematic symbol. Maria Battaglia reinterprets the chestnut leaf, the ultimate lucky charm and Corsican symbol. She imagines it in the form of a necklace and a double ring in 18-carat yellow gold set with diamonds. The two leaves thus united represent the unfailing love between two beings. They are the sign of pure and eternal feelings.
